Father Jenkins,
It saddens me and frustrates me that you would think it appropriate to invite President Obama to speak at the commencement and award him an Honorary Degree. One of the basic tenets of Catholicism, indeed the very thing that separates Catholics from so many other religions, is that we respect life. To us, abortion is murder. President Obama and his wife Michelle, have worked tirelessly to federally fund abortions and embryonic stem cell research, which is totally antithetical to the teachings of the Catholic Church. Moreover, out of all the countless invitations he has likely received to speak at commencements this year, do you think it is an accident that he chose Notre Dame? It is no accident. It is a shrewd political move for him to say yes to the most renowned Catholic university in the country, as if his policies on abortion are now accepted, even by Notre Dame. How could you sell us out as Catholics Father Jenkins? How could you do this to us when we are fighting every day against a society that is losing its morals? I am ashamed to say that Notre Dame is no longer the number one representative of Catholicism in this country. Let's hope that Boston College won't fall victim to cheap political tricks like you have.
